When I went to Ohio in June for Shelley Shepard Gray and Amy Clipston’s Girlfriend Getaway, I got to visit an Amish farm. It was so much fun to feed the animals, take a buggy ride, and eat the ice cream. There was also a very gute cheese factory nearby. Don’t worry. I got some cheese too.

I really liked the goats. I did a lot of research on goats when I wrote “The Christmas Bakery on Huckleberry Hill” in The Amish Christmas Kitchen because Anna and Felty’s grandson Titus raises a goat. Goats will eat a lot of things, but they are also like babies and like to explore things with their mouths. So don’t be worried if they take a bite of your shirt. They are just figuring out if they want to eat it–which they don’t, unless they are starving.

The alpacas had darling faces. This horse was huge! That is Shelley Shepard Gray’s daughter, Leslie Sabga, attempting to feed a Percheron. It was like ten feet tall.

We also took a buggy ride. I’m sure the Amish laugh at us Englishers for what a kick we get out of riding in a buggy.

The baby pigs were probably the most adorable animals I saw on the farm. This was a good time of the year to go because the piglets were plentiful. What a fun trip!
